Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the factors that influence work stress among managerial and non-managerial employees in Sarawak Foundation. This study had thirteen specific objectives and eleven hypothesis. The study was carried out to determine if there was any difference between employees of various selected demographic characteristics in term of their work stress. Also, this study was done to determine if there was a relationship between factors of relationship with colleagues, relationship with supervisor, personality factor and compensation with work stress. This study utilized a survey methodology and a questionnaire as a research instrument, that was prepared in Bahasa Malaysia. The questionnaire had three sections, these were personal data, work stress symptoms and sources of work stress. The sample of the study was obtained through a stratified random sampling technique, based on department and position. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, mean, percentage and standard deviation was used to describe the selected demographic characteristics of the respondents. T-test was used to determine if there was any difference between employees of different sex, position (managerial and non-managerial) and marital status in term of their work. While as ANOVA was used to determine if there was any difference between employees of various categories of age, year of service, number of dependants and race in terms of their work stress. Correlation was used to determine the relationship between relationship with colleagues, relationship with supervisor, personality factors and compensation with work stress. The findings of the study showed that a majority of the respondent had a moderate work stress. There was no difference among employees of various selected demographics in term of their work stress, except for position. All the four factor, that is relationship with colleagues, relationship with supervisor, personality factor and compensation were found to influence work stress among employees. It is recommended that the management of the organization should give special attention to these, factors in an effort to reduce work stress among its employees.
