Abstract
Development process is indeed an important aspect in human life as it leads to growth of economy. However, uncontrolled development and rapid urbanization are the major factors that lead to severity of local flooding problems especially the flash flood. Hence the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID) had introduced the "Storage Detention Approach" to overcome the flood problems. Utilization of the detention facilities is to retain the stormwater for certain duration to decrease the peak discharge rate. The main objective of this project is to design a detention for the Sungai Maong Kiri Catchment. The catchment area covered is estimated to be 14.2km2. The location of the proposed site is along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce as the housing area along the road is a flood prone area. From this research. the minor storm outlet does not need to be designed while for the major storm. the major storm outlet is designed to be 5m wide. The maximum flow is estimated to be 14.38m3/s while the maximum water level is estimated to be 1.31m, LSD
