Abstract

The benefits of implementing green building construction encompass not only the environmental dimension, but equally, if not more importantly, the economic advantages this endeavour brings to the construction stakeholders. There are few concerns raised related to the green building construction which may be causing hindrance towards its development and implementation. Green building construction is notorious for its cost premium and high upfront cost as compared to conventional building. There is a need in addressing the issues related to the green construction to alleviate the cost risk. In spite of the surging concern regarding the issue, there is limited knowledge related to the economics of green building construction. The purpose of this research was to formulate a Cost Reduction-Client Satisfaction Framework green building construction. This research utilised a literature review to identify the cause of the significant cost of green building construction, strategies for cost minimisation, and the relationship between cost reduction strategies and stakeholders’ cost satisfaction. The variables were validated through preliminary interview. Furthermore, questionnaire was adopted to unfold the research questions. The study revealed that roof and structural elements contribute significantly to the cost premium. The proposed cost reduction strategies improve the stakeholders’ cost satisfaction. Therefore, a Cost Reduction-Client Satisfaction Framework of green building construction for a more satisfactory green building construction deliverance was developed. Keywords: Economic, green building element, cost reduction strategies, stakeholders’ satisfaction
