Abstract

Currently, most of the university including Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSJT) in UNIMAS will provide the study plan for the students as guidance for them especially useful on student course registration period. However, there are still several problems arise when the course registration period. Student always faced on similar problems when doing their course registration on UNIMAS Student Course Registration System which are system overload (lagging) and quota of particular course is full. Besides that, even the given study plan in the undergraduate guide book contains valuable academic information for the student such as course offered year and their prerequisite course, but it might not be up to date as there may have either minor or major changes every year. Hence, the study plan may not be applicable for student who still has some courses to be retaken. Furthermore, the academic staff also does not have an effective approach to predict the class size o.f particular course and this may cause the quota of particular course full if they underestimate the class size. Hence, an automated course planning tool named FCSIT Student Automated Course Planning Tool is devised to FCSJT, UNIMAS. This automated course planning tool will provide the list of appropriate courses to be register in coming semester including the lecture, tutorial and lab slot for the FCSJT students based on their current academic information, study plan, and course timetable and students are allowed to manage their course plan. The proposed tool also provides an approach to support FCSIT academic staff in predicting the class size of particular course more accurately.
