Abstract

Since 2015, Malaysia has reiterated its commitment to support and implement the 21 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development 22 Goals (SDGs). The commitment of Malaysia is evident as it embedded the SDGs 23 into its National Plan. This chapter discusses the 2030 Agenda which serves as 24 Malaysia’s collective blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for 25 all. Institutional mechanisms and structures were established to implement and 26 monitor the 2030 Agenda. The continuous adaptation of SDG into the National Planning can be seen in Malaysia’s 11th National Plan and 12th National Plan 28 where its strategic plan includes the alignment of SDG and national development 29 is realized through a mapping exercise which involves the integration of the 30 national development plan’s action plans, initiatives, and outcomes to the SDGs’ 31 goals, targets, and indicators. The embedment of SDGs in Malaysia’s Plan 32 ensures that the people will benefit from socioeconomic development, achieve 33 inclusivity and social cohesion, and improve general well-being.
