Abstract

With the evolution of technology and the current busy lifestyle, people tend to find ways to promote a better lifestyle. There is an increase number of people trying to automate their home to ease their daily routine life and light hold a crucial part in this home automation. More and more people found that physical switch is not practical enough in controlling a light which in turn introducing a remote control which is less mobility and more accessible. But due to its small and portable size, it increases the missing probability, and here comes the control system via a phone application. But most of the existing light controlling application design is lack of consideration on the user experience, user accessibility and interactivity. Thus, in this project, besides using common touch panel control, the proposed application “Smart Light with Voice Controller” will integrate voice command into the control system. User experience will be the main consideration, UX design rule will be mostly referred. Users will just require giving a specific command to trigger the light without having to go through multiple clicks to reach the desired lighting controller page. In this report, the application development process will be discussed, all of the components require, and list of features and design include on the proposed application will be described in detail. Waterfall model is used in the development process. It consists of a total of 5 phases which include requirement phase, design phase, implementation phase, testing phase and maintenance phase and each phase will be further discussed in this report. In order to collect data, questionnaire is conducted to survey on current user requirements and expectations. Similar existing application is review, discussed, and compare on their strengths and weaknesses to analyse if there is any specification or function that can be included in the proposed application. Besides, all of the system design and database is show via UML diagram while the user interface is drawn using the wireframing method.
