Abstract

The research was carried out along the Rajang basin in Sarawak 28 longhouses/villages along the Rajang River were selected for survey purpose By identifying the present hazards cum disasters coping mechanism used by local communities, government’s disaster prevention or disaster management programs can be improved Through this, resources can be properly allocated. Effectiveness of the program is more ensured based on effective mechanisms that were already employed and accepted by the local communities. Among the main output of this research project was the disaster relief protocol for flood, fire and soil erosion, which is based on bottom up approach.
