Abstract

An ethnozoology survey was conducted in a few selected parts of Sarawak. This included Nanga Pelagus in Kapit and Ulu Mador in Meradong, Sarawak. This survey was conducted to describe the utilization of animals by the local community in the selected parts of Sarawak and also to study the factors influencing the animal utilization by the people in the local community. The technique used to gain information was by interviewing the local communities. The data was successfully gained from total of 101 respondents, 51 female and 50 male mostly from the Than community. It was proven that from this study, the utilization of animals by the local communities are still actively performed, as daily subsistence, selling product and for ornamental purpose. Factors influencing the utilization are namely traditional medication, aesthetic and economic importance.
