Abstract

Limited study focusing on Generation Y employees in IT industry particularly in Malaysia itself has initiated the strong necessary for this research to be conducted. The specific objectives of this research are to identify the Generation Y employees' personalities as perceived by their managers, to determine the Generation Y employees' work ethics as perceived by their managers, to find out the Generation Y employee's work values as perceived by the managers and to recommend human resource strategies in dealing with Generation Y employees. This research is a qualitative based research adapting a case study research design in an IT Company based in Selangor and the informants are chosen based on purposive sampling. Ten informants had been selected for this research, but the data reach saturated level at the eighth informant. Researcher used content analysis for this research and summarize it with a simple tree diagram. The main findings for this research revealed that managers perceived `openness to experiences' as the most common personalities while accountable of own's actions as core work ethics and recognition as their main work values among Generation Y employees. The findings from this study were an affirmation for Generational Cohort Theory and researcher also suggests about the changes of leadership styles according to situation and time.
