Abstract

The Red Stripe Weevil (RSW), Rhynchophorus schach or locally known as 'ulat mulong' can cause severe damage to sago palm Metroxylon sagu (F: Palmae). Few designs of the trap had been made based on the earlier works by other people, and each of them had been tested in the laboratory before being tested at sago plants. The traps were constructed from easily available and cheap materials and sago palm pieces as the baits. The traps were placed on ground level. Result had shown that, the most effective trap was the insecticide-free, standard bucket trap covered from the outside with rough, black cloth and eight slots 2.5 x 8 cm on the top of the bucket. The observation was 14 RSW and the ratio of female to male was 9:5.
