Abstract

A study on ecto- and endoparasite of local and broiler chicken was done in Labok, Kelantan and Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. Five chickens from each types of chicken were chosen as the research materials. The findings showed that all of the local chickens were infected by ectoparasite and endoparasite while broiler chickens were cleared from any infection of parasite. Based on the study in both places, five species were found which are Menopon gallinae, Goniocotes gallinae, Lipeurus caponis. Goniodes gigas and Dermanyssus gallinae. The rate of ectoparasite ·s infection was 98.9% in Labok and 99.6% in Kota Samarahan from the group of ectoparasic insect and the remaining was from the group of ectoparasic mite. There are three genera found in local chickens which are Hymenolepis, Raillietinae and Heterakis. The highest rate on ectoparasite 's infection in local chickens is Menopon gal/inae while for endoparasite is Heterakis sp. The analysis had shown that there was no significant difference on ekto- and endoparasit at both places tested using Zart-test and Shannon-Weiner Indeks. The result had proved that the distribution of ectoparasite and endoparasite in both places was not affected by geographic.
