Abstract

A study on the development of larval stage of blowflies of the rat carcasses (Sundamys muelleri) was carried out to record the duration of developmental of larval stage of blowflies, and to determine the relationship between time of death (TOD) and the development of larval stage of blowflies. Two fresh rat carcasses were used during this study. The statistical analysis was done by calculated the mean and standard deviation for duration of egg development, total larvae period, pupae period, period of adult emerge, ambient temperature and relative humidity. The first blowfly that visits the carcasses was Hypopygiopsis violacea. Detailed observations were made on rate of development of H. viofacea. The total period from egg to adult stage was 22 days eight hours. Five decomposition stage of S.muelleri was determined which were fresh, bloated, active, advanced decay and dry remain. The decomposition of S.muelleri takes about nine days. The results from this s.tudy may be useful not only for application in forensic investigation, but also for study in its biology in the future
