Abstract

A study on the population of giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii was carried out at Batang Kayan River, Lundu district. The sampling was carried out from October to early January, with the method of catching by using stationary trap (locally known as `belat') widely used by the fishermen. Physico - chemical parameters such as dissolved oxygen (DO), temperature (°C), pH, turbidity and salinity was measured by using Hach instruments. The population of M rosenbergii in sampling showed that the total length ranging from 10 - 12 cm and 10 - 12 g of weight, indicating the reduction in ttal amount of catch every sampling times. The gut contents showed that the food intake consists of aquatic plant, insects, worms, crustacean's remnants and debris material.
