Abstract

This study about advertisement calls of Bomean Rhacophoridae. The objective of the study is to determine whether call characteristics can be used to discriminate species. The study was conducted at Gunung Gatling National Park (GGNP), Santubong National Park (STBNP), Kubah National Park (KNP), Matang Wildlife Centre (MWC) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The acoustic recording were analysed using SoundRuler to determine the value of some sound characteristics. The unique characteristics were determined by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The dendrogram was produced from the detennined unique characteristics by using UPGMA clustering technique with Euclidean as the distance based on the similarity. All of the individual were able to be discriminated successfully. This research has discovered that unique call characteristics were able to discriminate individuals into their respective group. As a conclusion, unique call characteristics are valid to be used as species discrimination for frogs under family Rhacophoridae.
