Abstract

Begoniaceae is one of among the largest flowering families with an estimated 1,600 species distributed throughout the world. All the species were grouped into smaller group that called section. Currently, there are 63 sections are recognise worldwide with 18 sections recorded in South East Asia and only 5 in Sarawak. However, the sectional of Begonia in Sarawak has never been revised before. Therefore, the main objectives of this study is to investigate the placement of Begonia species in Kuching Division based on morphological and anatomical of floral characteristics. The study of micro morphological character was done using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). From the study, there are 16 species found from section Petermannia and section Reichenheimia where all the species have been revised and the result shows that the male and female flower characteristic not have certain character that will help to differentiate the sections but the pollen character have distinct tricolporate type and different shape within the species.
