Abstract

The objectives of this study are to identify addicts' self-preparation for drug abuse, identify drug addict self-management plans after independent supervision and see the appropriateness of art therapy approaches through House-Tree-Person drawing in group sessions. This study took a randomly selected sample aimed at the Kuching District Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). The respondents were six respondents undergoing rehabilitation treatment at the rehabilitation center. They will be having group sessions using the House- Tree-Person Art Therapy approach. The instruments of this study were group sessions and interviews. Studies have found that each house, tree and person represents a different meaning for each respondent. Therefore, there is a sub-theme variation for one symbol. For example, home painting provides some symbolism for respondents including parents, family and spouses. Through these sub-themes, the researcher can formulate the preparation and planning of the addict once they are free from the supervision of the authorities. Through this study, the researcher gained feedback on the art therapy approach of those drawing. Five of the six respondents in the group enjoyed the fun and approach to home-based art therapy therapy as they found that they were more open to planning ahead even though they had fallen into the wrong path.
