Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between types of performance appraisal system with the job performance of employees. The independent variable of this study consists of performance-based pay, management by objectives (MBO) and 360-degree feedback while the dependent variable is job performance of employees. This study has been carried out by using quantitative approach and the correlational study where Spearman's Coefficient of Rank Correlation and Multiple Regression are used to design this study. There are 50 respondents from Sibu Water Board participated in the data collection for actual test and pilot test was conducted among 30 employees. A nonprobability sampling technique such as convenience sampling is used to select the respondents. Questionnaires surveys of five likert scale measurement are used as an instrument to create the questions. The questionnaires survey had been distributed to the respondents randomly and collected back personally to avoid any miss out. The data collected from respondents for descriptive statistics was analysed by using Software Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23.0. This study showed that selected performance appraisal systems have positive relationship with the job performance of the employees. 360-degree feedback is the most dominant factor that influences the employees' job performance. This research contributed to the body of knowledge, policy, practitioner and methodology. Based on the results of the study, the recommendations that can be proposed is researchers can conduct the research on other industries in government sector or expand this research to private sector to broaden the current findings.
