Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the microhabitat patterns and structure affecting the forest birds communities in Kampung Gumbang, Bau, Sarawak. Fifteen mist-nets with each vegetation plot of 10 m x 10 m were used for data sampling. Mist-nets were checked in every two hours, starting from 0600 hours to 1800 hours. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Generalized Linear Model (GLM) were used to analyze the microhabitat pattern affecting the forest birds communities. PCA was used to identify the parameters of habitat of the surroundings of birds, while GLM was used to rank the important parameters of the microhabitat. Three parameters, density of woody plant > 3 m height ( AIC = 218.3 ), density of ferns ( AIC = 221.6 ) and density of flowering plants ( AIC = 220.4 ) were found affected the forest bird communities most.
