Abstract

Bak:o National Park is one of the places at Sarawak where the proboscis monkey can be found. There are three trails that famous with the presence of proboscis monkey at Bako National Park which are Telok Delima, Telok Paku and Telok Assam. Line transect method has been used for this research; where each proboscis monkey sighted along the trail was counted. The survey done based on the type ofvegetation for each area oftrail covered. The total population of the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) is 227 individuals estimated. The total line transect area of the forest types included in the trail was also estimated. Proboscis monkey not only can be found at mangrove forest area but secondary forest, mixed dipterocarp forest and kerangas forest are also represented as habitat that accommodate the proboscis monkey.
