Abstract

Ethnobotany study of medicinal plant was carried out among Orang Asli Jakun. This study had been done in Kampung Orang Asli Kudong, Bekok, Segamat, Johor. It is located 12 kilometres from Bekok town and 21 kilometres from Sungai Bantang (Bekok) waterfall, which the western entrance to Endau-Rompin National Park. This study had been carried out in 10 months; June 2016 to May 2017. A total of 45 respondents who are knowledgeable with medicinal plants had been interviewed and the information data gathered based on the local name, ailment treated, part of plants uses and method of preparation of the medicinal plants. There were 61 medicinal plants belongs to 34 families have been recorded. The study documented plants; Zingiber officinale, curcuma longa, Etlingera elatior, Kaempferia galanga and Curcuma rubescens from Zingiberaceae family as the most plant mentioned by the respondent. The study reveals Aloe vera, Piper betle and Cymbopogon citratus as the plant that can be used in various type of ailments. From the survey, leaves selected as most part used for herbal preparations. Poultice and ingestion were mostly used by Orang Asli Jakun as the mode of consumption. The study is important to preserve the knowledge of medicinal plants used and as important significant to exploit novel pharmacological agents in various treatment of ailments.
