Abstract

Eucalyptus pellita F. Muell plantation is still new in Malaysia and needs a lot of focus as it is a valuable material for the making of charcoal, firewood and sawn timber. This study was conducted to determine the growth rates and yield of E. pellita trial plot of model planted forest in Sabal Forest Reserve. Parameters such as diameter at breast height (DBH), total tree height and bole height were measured in order to determine the growth and yield of E. pellita in the study area. This study was carried out by establishing five sampling plots of 25 × 25 m each. The data was analyzed to determine the mean annual increment (MAI) in terms of diameter at breast height (DBH), basal area, height and volume of the trees. Results showed that the survival rate of 5.5 year old of E. pellita is good by exceeding 93.9 %. There was no significant relationship between DBH and height. Results also showed that there was no significant variation of total tree height among sampling plots. The growth rates of E. pellita are considered favorable as shown by MAI DBH of 2.9 cm/yr. Meanwhile, the growth rates for total tree height and bole height showed 4.3 cm/yr and 2.9 cm/yr, respectively. Due to high stem density of E. pellita, result showed that the yield up to bole height was approximately 192.3 m3 /ha.
