Abstract

Carbohydrazone and hydrazone ligands were prepared by reacting earbohydrazide with benzaldehyde in 1:2 mole ratio, and 2-acetylpyridine with acetohydrazide in I: I mole ratio, respectively. Five organotin(IV) complexes with molecular formula, R,.SnC4_o (R~Me, Bu, Phe) have been synthesized from ligand (1) whereas three organotin(IV) complexes have also been synthesized from ligand (2). All reactions were done in the presence of base in absolute methanol in 1:1:1 mole ratio (ligand:base:metal) under nitrogen atmosphere. Carbohydrazone/hydrazone ligands and their organotin(IV) complexes have been characterized using UV-Visible, molar conductance and FTIR spectral analyses. Among them, ligand (1) and its methyltin(IV) complex (3) have also been further characterized using 'H NMR spectroscopy. FfIR and 'H NMR analyses shown that the ligand (1) acted as monobasic tridentate in all the organotin(IV) complexes (3-7) and ligand (2) also acted as monobasic tridentate to its organotin complexes (8-10). All organotin(IV) complexes (3-8) showed non-electrolytic in nature.
