Abstract

The study was conducted to determme i) the e ffect of rooting honnone on roollng o f cu1tmg." and ii) the effect of pOlling media on earl y growth of rooled cuttmgs. 3 species se lected we re JlriJ isrllS uhaceus L. , Col/tstemon lanceo/a/us (Smith) DC., and Ficlis he/~iamin(j L but only H liiiaceus was successfull y root mg. The semi-hardwood stem cuttings we re app lied witJl 3 different trea tmen ts; a control where c utt lO gS were untrea ted, commercia l rooting honn one (Seradix 2) which con tain s 0.3·0.4% o[IBA w /w . a nd an hour soak III IBA ]000 ppm rooting solution. Rooling was conducled in river sand bed and on ly cuttings of H tilwcl?us from all t.reatmenLS rooted 100% 10 2 \\ceks but variances could be seen from the d iameter and number o f rOOlS. Serado:. :1 honnone trea tment increased the numbe r of roots, whi le dlOse from control creatmen t had the largest diameter of roots, The rooted cUllings were tran sferred in to 3 ddferenl pott mg media In polythene bags; topsod , sa wdust. and mix of la psod an d sa wdust in ra tio of I: I. No significant effect found between d ifferent media on growth ofH ttltaceus in tenns of1.l1 crease of nwn ber of new leaves, petIOle length and blade width .
