Abstract

Scallop, Amusium pleuronecte belongs to Family Pectinidae, a type of marine bivalve found in sandy bottom. This species had been sampled from Sarawak Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) during EEZ Survey Cruise and described by previous researcher. However, its molecular data has not been documented yet. Therefore, this study aims to carry out the DNA analysis of A. pleuronectes sampled from Sarawak EEZ. The length of the 16S rRNA gene sequences obtained from A. pleuronectes was 504 bp. The deletion at position 6 and transition at position 226 in DNA sequences can be observed when compared with the sample collected from different region. The 16S rRNA gene can be utilised to detect the genus level of species but demonstrated 0 % of genetic diversity within the same species. The phylogenetic tree of Neighbor-Joining (NJ) and Maximum Parsimony (MP) showed monophyletic of Amusium pleuronectes with the bootstrap values 100 and 99, respectively.
