Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the perception of employees in KESAS SDN. BHD toward career development and the factors that influenced their perception. There were eleven objectives and nine hypotheses in this study. The main objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the climatic factors of the organization and the perception toward career development. These six climate factors were motivation, supervision, training program, personnel and organization interest, life stages and work environment. A survey methodology was used in this study. A survey questionnaire was used as the instrument in this study. It was develop in both English and Bahasa Malaysia versions. The sample in this study comprised 55 respondents. The sample was obtained based on the calculation of a minimum required sample size from a population of 316 employees. The sample was obtained through a stratified sampling method from the various divisions in the organization. This method was used to ensure that all the divisions were equally represented in the sample. The data was analyzed through the use of One Way ANOVA, t-test and correlation. ANOVA was used to determine whether there was a difference between employees of various selected demographic characteristics in term of their perception toward career development. T-test was used to determine whether there was a difference between male and female in term of their perception toward career development. Correlation analysis was used to determine whether there was a relationship between the perception toward career development and the six climatic factors. The findings of the study showed that there was no difference among employees of various selected demographic characteristic in term of their perception toward career development. A majority of the respondents (90.9 percent) had a positive perception toward career development, and only 9.1 percent had a negative perception. All the six climatic factors were significantly related with the perception of employees toward career development. These finding showed that these six factors were the most important factors associated with career development in organizations. As such, organizations should give more emphasis to these factors in an effort to enhance the career development of their employees.
