Abstract

Forgotten Forest is a projection mapping installation based on ceramic sculpture, exhibited at the Old Court House, Kuching from July 6 until July 15, 2018. The installation was presented during Rainforest Fringe Festival 2018 in Kuching, Sarawak. A total of 1360 visitors had visited the installation exhibition, local and foreigners. The artwork aimed to develop a potential method to exhibit abstract animation in the form of an art installation for a gallery space. The sculpture comes alive through light effects, creating optical illusions and questioning our perception of space. The project is inspired by the massive development issues the rainforest ecosystems in Borneo and other parts of the world are facing. It is estimated that everyday numerous species become extinct due to the destruction of this tropical rainforest ecosystem. The Forgotten Forest quest is about the human relationship of love and harmony with the natural world, something that deep down human nature yearns for, It highlights the loss of nature in the urban landscape and points out humankind’s loss of its primal bonds with the natural world.
