Abstract

A study was carried out to evaluate the effect of different packaging materials on the viability of post harvested young fresh fronds of Stenochlaena palustris of different moisture content after soaked and stored in different temperature of environments. Young fresh fronds for grade A showed the highest percentage (85.7%) of moisture content. Soaking temperatures of 28 0, 32 0, 35 0 and 40 oc showed no significant different on the viability of fresh young fronds for the three grades (A, B and C). The viability of fresh young fronds exhibited no significant effects in different storage temperatures among the three grades (A, B and C). Packaging materials used indicated that viability of fresh young fronds was best maintained when packaged in polyethylene, especially for grade B.
