Abstract

A study was conducted on species diversity and abundance ofamphibians at Bau , Sarawak limestone area between July and October 2003. Forest and stream transects were used for the sampling methods and was conducted based on three plots that have been chosen, which situated within the area ofFairy Cave and Wind Cave. Five days ofcollection for each plot were done. A total of136 individuals, which consist 16 ofspecies, were captured in the three plots. The family ofRanidae (63% ofindividuals) were dominant, followed by Bufonidae (36%) and Rhacophoridae (1%). The dominant species in the area is Rana erythraea (31 individuals), followed by Bufo asper (22 individuals) and Bufo melanostictus (21 individuals). Diversity index offrogs in limestone area (H= 0.99782). In this study, there were no new or endemic speciesfound in the area.
