Abstract

This thesis described the study of two types of nanocarbon materials, i.e. diamond nanoparticle (DNP) and Graphene Oxide (GO) dispersions as additives to water lubricant. The main objective of this investigation was to study the ability of both materials to provide water with good tribological properties as a lubricant, therefore displaying the several advantages of water as replacement for mineral oil as a lubricant in mechanical systems. Additives are important because water alone does not have adequate lubrication ability for contact surfaces. The results obtained in this thesis are summarized and listed below.
