Abstract

One of the biggest challenges for a blind or visually impaired (VI) person is to navigate around places. White canes and guide dogs, two traditional methods of assistive navigation for the visually impaired and blind people, have certain constraints such as scarcity and difficult accessibility to guide dogs and normal white cane having challenges such as it cannot detect a target moving towards the user. There are now available white canes or supporting equipment that are integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, such as the WeWalk Smart Cane, BAWA Cane, OrCam, and others. These smart canes and devices use cutting-edge technology but are prohibitively pricey. VisioAssist - An Integrated Assistive System to Assist Visually Impaired and Blind People in Navigation is proposed in this study as an integrated assistive system with object detection and voice assisting navigation to assist and guide visually impaired and blind people in navigation in daily life. The goal of the project is to design and create a low-cost assistive system that can detect and identify objects and offer voice-assisted navigation to aid visually impaired and blind persons in daily navigation. Rapid Application Development (RAD) Methodology is used to design and develop the system.
