Abstract

This research focuses on the spatial distribution and population dynamics of Chalcosoma beetles in Sarawak. The study aims to provide insights into their ecology and their habitat preferences. The methodology employed a quantitative research approach, utilizing data flow diagrams, ArcGIS mapping, and a linear regression model. Data collection involved fieldwork, literature review, and web sources. The collected data were analyzed, mapped using ArcGIS software, and correlated with oil palm plantation areas. According to the results, Chalcosoma beetles are mainly found in coastal areas, especially in secondary forests and pest swamp forests. The oil palm plantations are shown in the distribution maps as areas where beetle populations overlap, which suggests that the beetles utilise these plants as habitats and food sources. Based on the locations of oil palm plantations, the linear regression model correctly predicts beetle abundance. The work advances our understanding of the Chalcosoma beetle and its ecological behaviour, which advances the field of entomology. By highlighting significant ecosystems and regions with a high beetle population, the data could direct conservation efforts and land management procedures. Additionally, the study acknowledges certain limitations, such as the need for larger, more representative datasets and the exploration of other environmental variables. Suggest future research opportunities including expanding datasets, incorporating remote sensing techniques, investigating other environmental parameters, and studying population dynamics and genetic analyses. By addressing these limitations and conducting further research, Chalcosoma beetles can be understood more fully, benefiting conservation efforts and contributing to the wider field of entomology
