Abstract

A nutrition tracking application is used to help the UNIMAS students reach their goals whether it be to lose weight, gain weight, or maintain weight. The nutrition tracking application can achieve this by having a food tracking functionality that allows the user to keep track of the food they eat during the entirety of the day. Alongside nutrition planning, the application allows tracking the amount of money spent on food to help university students save more money. The proposed mobile application will calculate and calibrate the required calories and macronutrients the user needs based on the the calculations algorithms in the code that calculates the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) of the user based on their personal biological metrics such as their age, weight, height and gender. The key requirement that this application aims to fulfil is that existing food nutrition applications do not have Malaysian, or Sarawakian foods available inside their food database. The proposed application aims to rectify that issue by populating the food database with local food items and products while at the same time adding another level of personalization to the application by allowing the users to add their own custom created foods.
