Abstract

The population dynamics of anchovies sampled from the coastal waters of Lawas and Labuan from 2017 to 2018 was described using the length-L and weight-W relationships (W=aLb). The study identified the major anchovy species in Lawas and Labuan waters, which were E. devisi and E.punctifer. The FiSAT II program was used to calculate the length-weight relationship. E. devisi has a TL of 3.7 cm – 7.2 cm and E.punctifer has a TL of 0.7 cm – 8.9 cm. For E. devisi, the length-weight associations were W = 0.08839L2.7633 , r2 = 0.7014, and for E.punctifer, W = 0.04431L1.9059 , r2 = 0.5490. The asymptotic length (L) was calculated to be 7.67 cm, the growth coefficient (K) to be 0.650 yr-1, total mortality (Z) to be 2.87 yr-1, and natural mortality to be 2.87 yr-1 (M). The information obtained was important as a guideline for the management to establish a fishing regulation for a sustainable fishery in the waters of Lawas and Labuan.
