Abstract

Medium voltage (MV) is commonly used for distribution systems with voltages above 1kV and is generally applied up to and including 52kV. For technical and economic reasons, the service voltage of medium voltage distribution networks rarely exceeds. This Data Distribution Service (DDS) will monitor the widely dispersed locations of the MV electrical network. This paper describes the protocol of DDS for Wide Area Measurement in the MV Electrical network. DDS is a middleware used as publish/subscribe (P/S) service that allows real-time exchanging data, modular system integration, and rapid integration in Internet of Things (IoT) industrial systems. This paper uses DDS to measure the MV Electrical network in dispersed areas. A Wide Area Measurements System (WAMS) monitors the voltage and current through the analogue reading of waveform data obtained from the Global Positioning System (GPS) clock. A Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is used to measure voltage and phase angles and significantly increase the accuracy and speed of energy management system applications. DDS protocol will be used to manage the data obtained from PMU, which will be delivered to WAMS in MV Electrical network. The data collected in the PMU will be stored in the ThingSpeak cloud server and delivered using the DDS protocol. The DDS protocol will be developed using MATrix LABoratory (MATLAB). In this paper, DDS protocol will be used to transfer data such as voltgae, current, and power freqeuncy.
