Abstract

This project describes the alternative current (AC) lamp dimmer using android smartphone. An AC lamp dimmer is a device that control the intensity of the light of the lamp. AC lamp dimmer is necessitating in most of the profession smart home system. The intensity of light of lamp can be control through contactlessly. The aim of this report is to describes a non-contact approach that utilizes a TRIode for Alternating Current (TRIAC) and the Arduino UNO. TRIAC are excellent component for controlling the flow of alternating current and control by its control gate with specific signal input. It has a wide variety of application such as controlling the output of motor, control the temperature of an oven, and even controlling the volume of radio. The main objective of this project is to conserve electrical energy when dimmer is applied. The second objective is design a wireless remoted dimmer. Another objective of this project is to apply zero crossing method in a dimmer system. This project shows that the proposed system could control the light intensity through the android smartphone. The experimental setup as well as the outcomes are shown and explained.
