Abstract

This study focused on Passer montanus in two non-shading areas in populated residential sub-urban focusing on garden areas. This study was conducted using a video monitoring system to monitor the foraging behaviour, food preference and rate of visitations. In this experimental study, our main aim is to determine the food preference of P.montanus. The study was done in Kampung Paya Mebi, Kuching, Sarawak with two different microhabitats. This experimental study will also comparing the rate of visiting between the two microhabitats Based on this study, it was found out that P.montanus preferred bird pellets that are in smaller size and has stronger smell compared to other foods offered. Furthermore, the visitations of the species were found out to be higher during sunny day and to be conspicuously absent during rainy days. Through independent t-test using unpaired sample, it was also found out that there was no significant difference between non-shading area A and B. It was suggested that this study to be continued thus can be improved and shared to the whole world through live stream video.
