Abstract

Family of Rhacophoridae is a spacious family in Asia and commonly known as “flying frog”. It is an arboreal species that has expended toe membranes which help it fall slowly, glides and parachutes when leaping off trees. Rhacophoridae evolution and diversification have produced the most species diversity on Sumatra and Borneo. This study aims to understand and determine the differences of morphological traits among Family Rhacophoridae species which are Polypedates leucomystax, Polypedates colletti and Rhacophorus pardalis in UNIMAS. Using dichotomous keys reference, active and passive methods in collecting specimens, we emphasise the diversification in coloration and shape of the species especially on frogs’ limbs variation through illustration (hand drawing). There is no study about morphological variation among Family Rhacophoridae yet conducted in UNIMAS, Sarawak. Thus, this study aims to illustrate limbs variation among the Rhacophoridae and to elucidate the morphological diversification of Rhacophoridae by using morphometric analysis through principal component analysis, PCA and discriminant analysis by only focusing in one locality which is in UNIMAS.
