Abstract

Hesperiidae is one of the important pollinator of flowering plants in the ecosystem. A study on the faunistic composition and ecological distribution of Hesperiidae in Sarawak was conducted using voucher specimens from UNIMAS Insect Reference Collection. A total of 128 specimens comprising of 39 species from 24 genera were examined. The most speciose genus was Hasora with six species (15.38%), followed by Ancistroides and Potanthus, with three species each (7.69%). Udaspes folus was the most abundant species recorded with 17 individuals (13.28%), followed by Erionota thrax with 16 individuals (12.5%). Mixed dipterocarp forest supported a diverse range of Hesperiidae species, with evidence of 23 distinct species. Because of the favourable habitats and abundance of larval host plants and food sources, mixed dipterocarp forest supports the greatest number of Hesperiidae species and individuals. Many species were discovered to have low abundance and a narrow geographical distribution. Further research on Hesperiidae with more sampling efforts is needed to determine the distribution of Hesperiidae species in Sarawak.
