Abstract

Rhyme is one of the aspects of language arts that is taught systematically in the primary education level. In facing the 21st century education, a holistic and multidisciplinary approach needs to be highlighted in order to balance pupils’ cognitive. Hence, this study was carried out using the inquisitive semantic approach introduced by Nor Hashimah (2014) to unravel the meaning of expression in rhyme in stages until it discovers philosophy and common sense. The Relevance Theory founded by Sperber and Wilson (1986) and the Cross-Reference Framework (CRF) was applied in the second stage of this inquisitive semantic analysis. 11 of year five pupils were involved as respondents to this study. This qualitative study uses the text analysis method, which is an expression chosen from a rhyme. The result found that the systematic and multidisciplinary IS approach are able to develop pupils' cognitive in an effort to explore the implicit meanings contained in the teaching and learning materials of language art. The using of Relevance Theory and CRF in the second stage of semantic resonance analysis makes learning language arts education more interesting, meaningful and enjoyable. The semantic approach applied is expected to be a suitable method of 21st century educational practices to produce a good quality impact of language arts’ learning.
