Abstract

The growing interest in wood products and technology has led to the growing progress in quality and precision of woodworking equipment. Wood is always used in conjunction with other engineering materials especially in construction and furniture especially Acacia hybrid. Acacia hybrid is the cross between Acacia mangium and Acacia auriculiformis, the two parent species. Acacia mangium is an original Papua Northern Guinea and Indonesia tree while Acacia auriculiformis is a modern Papua Northern Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia tree. In 1971 in north-western Sa bah , Malaysia, the first hybrid of Acacia mangium, was found in nearby Ulu Kukut farm. This paper explores the physical and mechanical strength assessment of the air-dry condition of laminated Acacia hybrid with a combination of age which is 7 with 10 years old, 10 with 13 years old and 7 with 13 years old in a small simple procedure. For the physical properties, moisture content and density were determined. Meanwhile for mechanical properties is the impact bending of acacia hybrid. The mean density of laminated acacia hybrid 7 with 10 years old, 10 with 13 years old and 7 with 13 years old are 0.676 g/cm3, 0.697 g/cm3 and 0.688 g/cm3 respectively and for moisture content is 14.945% for 7 with 10 years old, 13.748% for 10 with 13 years old and 14.274% for 7 with 13 years old.
