Abstract

Being the fourth most prevalent cancer among men in Malaysia, Prostate Cancer (CaP) affects the prostate glands. the glands that produces some of the fluid in semen & plays a role in urine control in men. Those who are above the age of 60, the occurrence rate shall increase significantly. The human body inherits two working copy of genes. One from the mother and one from the father but imprinted genes are inherited with a single working copy of a gene. either maternally or paternally and the inactivated genes are epigenetically silenced. "Imprinted' are referred to established epigenetic marks in the sperm or egg cells (germline) of the parents. In a large variety of human tumors, deregulation of imprinted gene expression (loss of imprinting [LOI]) is often found. A meta-analysis research had been carried out to locate Commonly Deleted Regions (CDRs) in CaP. There are approximately 103 imprinted genes in the human genome known as imprintome. The objective of this study is to seek the presence of imprinted genes that are located at the CDRs of CaP. We have successfully identified 15 CDRs from analyzing 16 previously published articles of Loss of Heterozygosity (LOH) of CaP. The chromosomal arms that exhibit high frequency of LOH are 6q, 7q, 8p and 13q. The imprinted genes that were verified in this study are DLGAP2, KLF14, MESTITI, RBI and CPA4.
