Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the nutritional value of a plant source agro wastes; sago solid wastes and soybean solid wastes for tilapia feed formulation. Sago solid wastes was examined as carbon sources, whereas soybean solid wastes as protein sources. Initially, both samples were treated with four different fungi by using solid state ,.; '.. fennentation which includes Aspergillus niger PAN I, Trichoderma reesei, Trichoderma harzianum UASSD 12, and Baker's yeast. The results indicated that sago solid waste treated with Baker's yeast showed the highest increment in CP from 0.91 ± 0.08 to 1.75 ± 0.19 whereas, T reesei treatment elevated the CP on soybean solid wastes from 31.63 ± 0.51 to 37.38 ± 0.44 as compared to the other treatments. Both treated samples were incorporated into the experimental diets separately with 10%, 20% and 30% inclusion level in the diets making seven types of tilapia feed with control diet which free from both treated samples. Sago-based experimental diets showed the least performance as compared to soybean-based experimental diets. Soybean-based experimental diet with 20% inclusion exhibited the best performance on body weight gained (4.99 g) with no significant difference (P>0.05) recorded compared to control treatment (4.96 g). This showed that the soybean solid wastes have better potential to be used as main protein source in the aquaculture feed formulation at 20% inclusion level.
