Abstract

This study was conducted to identify students' attitudes and motivations towards foreign language learning at UNIMAS as well as to identify differences in attitudes and motivations towards foreign language learning based on gender. The foreign languages are Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin and French. A total of 112 UNIMAS undergraduate students were involved in this study and were given an online questionnaire. The method used in this study is quantitative method. The statistical approach is used to achieve the first objective which is to identify students' attitudes and motivations towards foreign language learning at UNIMAS and t test is conducted to achieve the second objective which is to identify differences in attitudes and motivations towards foreign language learning based on gender. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 23. The findings of the study found that students showed a positive attitude and motivation towards foreign language learning at UNIMAS and no significant gender influence on students' attitudes and motivation in foreign language learning. It is hoped that this study will provide clear insights and additional information on attitudes and motivations, especially in foreign language learning.
