Abstract

A study on the growth performance and survival rate of planted Dryobalanops beccarii after silviculture treatment have been conducted at Gunung Apeng Forest Reserve. The objectives of this study is to assess the growth performance and survival rate of planted Dryobalanops beccarii after different silviculture treatments that is control, bush slashing and selective girdling and hence indicates which silviculture treatment that promote better growth performance and survival rate. The study plot of Dryobalanops beccarii planted under line planting method that were established in the year 2005 (DB05) and 2007 (DB07) was selected. The stem diameter, tree height, light intensity and survival of tree were measured. The monitoring period on the growth performance and survival rate of planted Drybalanops beccarii was 24 months after silviculture treatment were applied. The result showed, in DB05, the percentage of survival rate for control, bush slashing, and selective girdling were at 85%, 57%, and 88%, respectively. In DB07, the percentage of survival rate were at 78%, 78%, and 95%, respectively. For both of the study plot, the average stem diameter and tree height in all treatments were gradually increasing from before silviculture treatments. In both plot, the mean annual increment in diameter and height for all treatments shows almost similar performances the same as the relative growth rate in diameter and height also show the similar performances in all treatments. This study implied that both silviculture treatment which are bush slashing and selective girdling do not show much different on effects in growth performance and survival rate of planted Dryobalanops beccarii as compared to control.
