Abstract

This study is a descriptive and qualitative study that aimed to identify the sense of humour language in political speeches by exploring the denotative and connotative meanings with the framework of semantics. In the study, 25 data on humour language were collected based on 15 speeches of Dato Sri Adenan Salem. These political speeches were gathered from reliable \ online as well as offline sources and Radio Television Malaysia. Based on the findings of the study, it was found that the humour language was widely applied in these speeches. Apart from that, the findings of the study also showed that humour language comveyed specific meanings which are correlated to its denotative meanings. These findings therefore reflected the association on the use of humour language and its meanings expressed. In short, the results obtained in the study is an addition to the existing facts and findings on humour language for it is a rheotrical skill that kept audience entertained while delivering speeches.
