Abstract

Searching for vacant parking space nowadays is time and fuel consuming. Eventually, this situation causes the drivers to be frustrated and lead to improper parking. This situations in the end causes a major traffic congestion and results in bad environment due to carbon emission by the vehicles which constantly cruising for an available parking space. Therefore, this project proposes the Smart Parking System using Arduino based on Internet of Things (IoT), which will assist driver to find the best vacant spot and guide them to the area using Android application. In this paper, the design of the Smart Parking System is proposed based on IoT which will provide full advantage for monitoring and controlling the congestion based on the sensor reading. The sensors that are mount on top of each parking slot will detect the presence and absence of a car. The data is gather and access by the Arduino to be process and send to Android Application via Bluetooth communication. For the prototype system, the LCD display will show the amount of parking space available in the parking area. If the parking are fully occupied, the LCD display will shows 0 and hence the entrance gate will close permanently until the parked car exit the parking area. This project helps to reduce the traffic jams and improper parking in the parking spaces while offering a smart guiding system using Android application on smart phone to allocate best vacant spot for the users.
