Abstract

This paper examines the electronics sector convergence in Asian countries, as it became the most important sector in the Asian countries. The developed countries like Japan, America and Europe mostly assembly their plants in Asian, especially in Association of Southeast East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. This research follows on the new method proposed by Phillips and Sul (2007) on testing convergence and convergence club clustering. The research shows that there is a convergence between 9 countries and one big cluster group for both value added and labor share. Singapore, India, Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Malaysia are in one cluster group for value added share while Hong Kong is diverging from this convergence group while Japan, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines are in one cluster group for labor share. China and Singapore are diverging from this big cluster group. Electronics companies in the world are now focus more on this sector as it is a fast moving sector in this decade. The following geese (later comers) like China and South Korea has catching up with the goose (leading) country, Japan on this sector
