Abstract

Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. The sampling of termites was conducted along line transect with distance approximately 600 meters per transects. A total of six transects were carried out with two transects per sampling site. The termites collected were preserved in 70-80% alcohol and the identification process was done based on the external morphology of termites. In this present study, a total of 26 species comprising of 13 genera (Macrotermes, Nasutitermes, Schedorhinotermes, Pericapritermes, Coptotermes, Dicuspiditermes, Odontotermes, Prohamitermes, Havilanditermes, Termitogeton, Procapritermes, Heterotermes and Microcerotermes), two families, and eight subfamilies were collected. The termites from species Coptotermes sepangensis were encountered in all the three sampling sites. The subfamilies Macrotermitinae and Termitinae are the most commonly found and have the highest species recorded.
