Abstract

Depression has a profound impact on the elderly especially to those living in welfare homes and they are categorized as people who face the risk of regaining happiness. The question is, are they able to achieve re-happiness? Therefore, studies have been conducted to explore the concepts and effects of depression faced by the elderly as well as the behavioral measures taken by the elderly to deal with depression at the Rumah Seri Kenangan, Sarawak The sample carried out was among men and women aged 63 to 79 years old. Qualitative studies using the case study tradition have been conducted among elderly people who have been identified for depression. Data analysis is done using domain approach. A total of five informants at Rumah Seri Kenangan, Sarawak were interviewed using interview techniques. The findings show that the level of informal depression is at a high level. The findings also found that family factor and the environment had a profound impact on the depression they faced.
