Abstract

Achieving work life balance and job satisfaction among employees is a primary concern for both individuals and organizations. Work life balance policies can help employees to meet with various need which may promote job satisfaction. Additionally, individuals should possess organizational commitment towards organization to ensure they have the loyalty to work for achieving job satisfaction. This study investigates the relationship between work life balance policies and job satisfaction with the mediator of organizational commitment in the relationship. Quantitative research method was used for the study. Questionnaires were employed for data collection among 90 employees from selected banking sector in Kuching, Sarawak. Out of 90 distributed questionnaires, 83 were completed and returned, giving an overall returning rate of 92.22%. Data was analyzed by using Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS) version 24.0 and Lavaan R Package Jamovi. Results indicated that there were positive significant effects between work life balance policies, organizational commitment and job satisfaction. A partial mediation effect of organizational commitment was established on the relationship between work life balance policies and job satisfaction. The findings implied that one method to enhance the levels of job satisfaction among employees was to promote work life balance and foster organizational commitment among them. These results will become particular attention to Human Resource Practitioners and organizations who are interested in improving the work life balance among the employees. The findings also broaden previous research by involving organizational commitment as a mediator of the relationship between work life balance policies and job satisfaction. Thus, the work life balance policies seem to increase the organizational commitment, which in turn, results in increase in job satisfaction.
